OUR JOURNEY
Growing With Communities
Since our inception, we have been committed to empowering underserved communities through financial inclusion. Our journey has been driven by trust, transparency, and a strong belief in community development.
Gramin Vikas Samiti: A Legacy of Grassroots Transformation Since 1985
Gramin Vikas Samiti (GVS) has been at the forefront of rural development for over four decades, evolving from a grassroots initiative into a multi-state development organization impacting thousands of lives across India.
The organization began its journey in 1985 with community-centric health initiatives such as eye camps and blood donation drives, addressing immediate healthcare needs and building trust among underserved populations. Recognizing education as a catalyst for long-term change, GVS entered the education sector in 1991 with the establishment of a girl child education centre supported by the Danish Embassy, promoting gender equality and access to learning.
In the 1990s, GVS strengthened community institutions by forming 100 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Rewari with CAPART support, empowering women economically and socially. Its partnership with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in 1996 further expanded its role in ensuring universal education in Gurugram and Mewat.
A major milestone was achieved in 2005 through the implementation of 12 National Child Labour Project (NCLP) centres, rehabilitating over 1,200 child labourers and mainstreaming them into formal education systems.
In 2015, GVS partnered with Smile Foundation to run two education centres, supporting 400 dropout children and integrating them into mainstream schooling. Expanding into public health, GVS launched a Menstrual Health & Hygiene (MHH) program in Bhopal in 2019 with support from Grand Challenges Canada, addressing critical gaps in adolescent health and awareness.
With growing credibility, GVS established partnerships with international donors such as Arisaig, AJWS, and Dasra, expanding its interventions across Bihar, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra through innovative programs like the Period Fellowship.
In 2023, GVS diversified into livelihood promotion through collaboration with the Ministry of Handicrafts, organizing Gandhi Shilp Bazaars and providing skill training to artisans nationwide. Its commitment to quality and transparency was recognized in 2024 with empanelment under the Quality Council of India (QCI) Bronze Level Certification.
Today, GVS stands as a trusted development partner working across education, health, livelihoods, and women empowerment, with a strong focus on sustainable, community-led impact.
